CROWN

In 1947 founders Ruby and Clarence Moore establish International Radio and Electronics Corporation modifying and distributing high-quality tape recorders (Magnecord, Recordio, Pentron, and Crestwood) for rugged environments. In the 1962/63 the first solid state, professional quality tape recorder is invented at Crown. Crowns first solid state amplifier was made in 1964. The SA 20-20, is an industry first, low-profile unit (1 3/4 inches high). In the 1975 International Radio and Electronics Corporation becomes Crown International, Inc. In 1980 Crown begins microphone manufacturing with the introduction of the PZM (Pressure Zone Microphone) family of microphones. Today, Crown International, or Crown Audio, is an American manufacturer of audio electronics, and is a subsidiary of Harman International Industries. Headquartered in Northridge, California, HARMAN Professional is part of HARMAN International Industries, Incorporated, a leading manufacturer of high-quality, high fidelity audio products and infotainment systems for the automotive, home and professional markets, and has been part of South Korea-based Samsung Electronics since 2017.
